Last week, students of Vista Verde Middle School took a road trip during their lunch periods as part of the College Road Trip program.
The school was decorated with school pennants from colleges around the U.S. and there were college names posted in window of classes. Outside the office, a giant sign, painted by Vista Verde Counselor Atanacia Malagon and Teacher Jerry Mares, hung for all the student to see on the way in to school Monday morning.
During lunch period, students were treated to activities all teaching them about college. Everything was covered, from colleges themselves, to what is required to be accepted to what happens while they are there and what they will leave college with.
“Keeping it fun keeps the students interested,” Malagon said. “It’s never to early to think about college.”
On Wednesday, Mares and Malagon set up a relay race for the students during their lunch. Teams of four went head-to-head and station-to-station to answer questions and complete challenges to win prizes.
